About the event

The training will be interactive face-to-face and will help foster families or caregivers develop their skills and awareness of First Nations, Inuit and Métis indigenous culture. They will develop certain skills and participate in activities such as smudging and talking circles.

We will cover history and its dark moments as well as the repercussions and intergenerational impacts of residential schools on the generations that followed and the traumas that resulted.

Ancestral traditions, the importance of the family and the worldview of First Nations, Inuit and Métis will also be discussed. The question of how to fight against systemic racism and the prejudices that others may have towards the child and Jordan's Principle will be explained.

Finally, discussions will take place around how to find and keep the link with the culture and the nation(s) of the welcomed child so that he/she can stay connected with his/her original roots.
